Wednesday Spotlight with Karenne and the CTR crew

Hello and welcome to Wednesday Spotlight! We all love getting those glowing reviews, winning those fun contests, and chatting it up, right? Today I have a special treat. I am pleased to have Karenne and her crew from Coffee Time Romance & More to chat with us! Karenne has rounded up some of her best staff members and they will be here all day to answer any questions you have. Don’t look now but here they come soaring through space in a coffee mug! Let’s give Karenne and her crew a warm welcome!

Thunderous applause explodes through cyber space as the coffee cup makes a smooth landing on stage, bright lights twinkling in a kaleidoscope of crimson, burnt orange and amber. Karenne steps out, followed by her amazing crew. They wave madly at their adoring fans. Sharon greets the crew with warm cyber hugs. Welcome! It’s a pleasure to have you as my guests today! Make yourselves comfortable on the deck and my butler Oliver will be right out with refreshments. But first, here is a little about the crew:

KARENNE
Hmm, well I am the pushy broad who makes my staff miserable! Lol I am known as the ‘nag-a-nator’. As for personally, I am a SAHM who homeschools her kidos, runs a local childrens’ organization, loves to read, and plays at being a chef!

DELANE
Hi Sharon,
I am a reviewer with Coffee Time Romance part time and full time I am an 18 year
member of the armed forces. I have been with Coffee Time for almost a year and I
love to read. I have been reading since I was a child; the library and book mobile
were my best friends. I am a mother of 5 children; we are truly a his, mine, and
ours family. My oldest two son's now serve their country and my three youngest
are still at home with us. I look forward to answering any questions that come my
way.

KIMBERLY
Hi, I am Kimberly. I am a reviewer with Coffee Time. I am also the Contest Coordinator.
I have been here for a little over a year now.
The reviewing is easy to understand. The contest coordinating involves scheduling
and writing the contests plus monitoring the entries. It is a lot of fun. I'm kind
of a organizational freak so it suits me!!
I have been married to my knight in tarnished armour for almost 16 years. We have
five furbabies and live in Northeastern Oklahoma.

DANIELLE
Hi Sharon, thanks for having us. Your personality is amazing! Let me tell you a little
about
Myself and then get to my duties at CTR. I met my husband in High School but didn’t
Actually start dating him until after we graduated. The sweetest thing is that the
first time he
Saw me he went home and told his mother that he found the woman he was going to marry.
You can actually read our love story on my CTR webpage, it is pretty spectacular.
http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/Reviewers/Danielle.html
. Anyway, my hubby and I got
Married when I was 20 and have now been married for 11 years. We have 2 children.
Our
Son is 9 going on 10 and our daughter is 8 going on 16. LOL. We live in Northern
Michigan
Where there are 3 season. Fall, Winter, and Construction. The only other notable
thing
About me is my father was in the Air Force. I was born in London, England. We then
Moved to Lubbock, TX then to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, then to Plattsburgh,
NY.
After my parents divorced my mother and my siblings and I moved to Northern Michigan
Where I have been ever since. I have been to 13 different schools and married a man
Who lived in the same house and went to the same school his whole life. How ironic
is that?
----->My biggest job at Coffee Time Romance is doing book reviews. I do both Ebooks
And print. If it is via Ebook, I use my trusty Ebookwise 1150 to hilight any key
Points within the storyline that may be important for my review. If it is print,
I use a good old fashioned yellow hilighter lol. When I actually do the book reviews,
I try my hardest to be fair and not judge based on whether I like the genre itself
Or not. Instead, I focus on how an author writes, is the story told smoothly, and
Whether it comes together at the end or not. Now, by coming together let me stress
I don't necessarily mean as in a HEA (happy ever after) ending. I have read books
That has a HUGE cliffhanger but I give it a rave review because it just fits. The
Reviews I like best are when I have to read a novel whose genre is something I don't
Care for, and then I find myself loving the story. To me THAT is a great author and
What a spectacular writer should be.
----->Another job I have at CTR is doing author interviews. I just started back in
January and quickly got over my nervousness and butterfly stomach lol. I have to
Say that being able to read an author's book before I do the interview is a HUGE
Plus. And not just because I love to read, but because it does give me some insight
Into their work and how they put a story together. Once I have finished the novel,
I try to shell out between 10 and 15 questions about their book and the life they
Lead in general. Then I send it to them to answer and wait for a reply. Reading the
Answers to my questions is always fun because then you get to see their true personality
Come through. I remember my very first interview was an author whose book was very
Graphic and bloody but her interview was very refreshing and fun to do. It shocked
Me because I assumed that her writing style for the interview would be the same as
Her novel.
----->As you can tell by now, I love to talk. It comes from being the middle child
In a family where everyone is loud lol. One of my favorite jobs is when we do the
Book Brew for the Coffee Crew. This month it was contemporary and next month it is
Erotica. As readers, we get to blog all day about what our favorite books are, even
If they are ones we did not review. This is done the first Monday of each month and
I have to say it keeps my obsession with books fed; especially when I see books that
I haven't heard of that sound really great. Here is the website in case you or anyone
Else is interested:

HOLLIE
Hollie is a mother of 4 beautiful and active children (5 if you count The Smurf...a/k/a
the husband) who works part time in the local primary school. As a member of Coffee
Time Romance & More’s Coffee Crew, Hollie spends her free time reviewing books, interviewing
authors, chatting with other book lovers, and is the Coffee Write Coordinator. Coffee
Write is her new passion which is a wonderful area with a new monthly story that
changes daily with people who introduce their spin and change the story line.
http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=255

SABRINA
My name is Sabrina and I am the Live Chat Coordinator, Which means I schedule all
the authors who chat with us on Tuesday nights @ 9 PM EST. If you haven’t been to
a live chat, you should give it a shot- we like to have fun in there (bats eyes innocently).
I also help out moderating the forums with an amazing group of ladies. I joined Coffee
Time Romance & More two years ago and have been helping out for about a year and
a half. My favorite part of Coffee Time is interacting with the authors, watching
new authors rise and established authors progress.

CHEROKEE
I am a reviewer at Coffee Time Romance. I get to read books and review them. This
is something that I love doing. I also do interviews at times, too. I love being
a part of Coffee Time Romance. The people are super nice and it is like a huge loving
family. (A lot of the reviewers say Karenne keeps them locked in the basement, but
they must be really secretly hid, because I have found no locked basements. Karenne,
is a super cool person and I enjoy working with her.)

BRENDA
Hi Sharon,
I was born and raised in Texas with a short excursion to the state of Washington.
After graduating from high school and testing the college waters, I joined the Army.
I was in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in Alabama until I was accepted for Officer
Candidate School. I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the last WAC Officer
Basic Class. I served at Fort Devens, Massachusetts until the Army started to do
away with the WAC. I was then assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado as a Military Police
officer. While there I served as the first female on Fort Carson to serve as a Company
Commander of a unit containing both women and men. It was the 19th MP Company.
I served in Pirmasens, Germany as the first female Provost Marshal. I left active
duty after serving at Fort Irwin, California and moved back to Texas where 8 years
later, I retired from the Army Reserve. I also worked in Adult Probation and Corrections.
I've never married and have no children. I do have 2 brothers, 1 step-brother, and
1 step-sister. I'm living with Multiple Sclerosis on a ranch and enjoying my 3 dogs,
5 cats, my friends and my garden.
Books are my addiction. I've loved to read since I was in grade school.

MAURA
Hi Sharon,
I am Maura and I have been with Coffee Time as a reviewer for a little less than
four years.
I am married with no children but have three dogs who I train for competitive obedience.
I have been a Deputy Sheriff for twenty years, have a Bachelors degree from Cortland
State and a Masters from NYU, both in psychology.
I am a voracious reader and just love my part time (lol) job as a reviewer.
I live on Long Island way out on the North Fork among the beaches and wineries, which
go great with books.

Sharon: Well there you have it folks, a nice introduction from each of my guests from Coffee Time Romance & More. Now that we’re all settled on our tiki chairs on the terrace overlooking the beach, allow me to ring for my butler/cabana boy. Oh Oliver, come on out. We’re ready for cocktails!

Oliver soars through the rippling waves on his surf board, winking wildly at the ladies. Dressed in his spanking new fluorescent canary yellow speedos, he pumps his grapefruit-size biceps. Ladies, ladies. I’m here to please. May I get y’all a cocktail?

Karenne: (slaps Oliver on the butt) Coffee

Danielle: Hi Oliver. You are as handsome as Sharon said you were. Could you please
get me a Cranberry Soda with a splash of
Vodka please?

Delane: A corona with lime, please.

Kimberly: (Silence as she stares at the gorgeous Oliver) Uh, did you say something? I think an ice cold glass of pink lemonade will work just fine for me. Whew… he is a hot one… I mean, the weather, the weather is warm today!!

Hollie: oh yes please vodka and cranberry juice please

Sabrina: Lemon Drop Martini please

Sharon: Ah…Oliver…bring me a Bloody Mary, please!

Cherokee: Margarita' please

Brenda: Mocha frappachino.

Maura: Gin&Tonic

With a sweeping bow, Oliver appears, balancing a tray of drinks in one hand, snacks in the other. With a wicked wink, he places cocktail napkins down, the drinks and an assortment of snacks. Here we go ladies, popcorn, bridge mix, rippled potato chips and French onion dip made from onion soup, walker crisps, a fresh fruit tray of strawberries, grapes and melons, chocolate covered strawberries, Peanut Butter Cups and Goobers. Y’all just let me know when you need another cocktail and I’ll be right over. Oliver struts off singing, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Sharon: Well now, let’s have a toast. Raises her Bloody Mary to one and all. To Karenne and the staff at Coffee Time Romance & More. Here here! But suddenly FOOTLOOSE blasts over the speakers and Oliver grabs Danielle and takes her for a wild spin around the terrace. Come on hope ya got your dancin’ shoes on, darlin’. Let’s show ‘em how it’s done! Oliver shouts above the chorus of cheers, Everybody cut loose!! With one final spin, he grins broadly.

Danielle: Phew Oliver. You certainly know how to cut a rug don’t you?!

But then the song changes as the disco ball bathes Karenne in a kaleidoscope of flashing lights. Celebration blasts from the cyber speakers and Oliver grabs his partner. Put on those disco shoes, darlin’! He serenades her. Cel e brate good times…come on!! It’s a celebration! Come on!

Karenne: Love Disco! (dances around the beach singing loudly and off key)

Once more the song changes to a favorite punk rock by Bon Jovi. Grinning and clapping his hands, Oliver grabs Sabrina for a spin. Puffing out his chest, he belts it out, It’s my Life!! He struts his stuff, pumping his biceps at Sabrina.

Sabrina: Sabrina: Is trying to be polite and not drool while Oliver is working the floor.
But feels really light headed

But then the music changes to a slower beat and the sound track from Across the Universe blasts. Oliver takes Delane by the hand and pulls her close as he sings in her ear the words to Let It Be. Thunderous applause explodes as Oliver gives a sweeping bow and escorts Delane to her chair. He winks and asks Did I sing it as well as Tim?

Delane: Wow what a knee weakening serenade. You are so talented Oliver (sigh).

Then the music pulsates to a wild beat and Oliver appears with a guitar. He grabs Sharon and yanks her on the bar. They rock it to Walk This Way by Aerosmith. Oliver belts out the lyrics All started with a little kiss…like this…walk this way. The song ends and he plants a big one on Sharon’s lips, blowing kisses to his adoring CTR fans! Ladies, ladies, who wants to be next! Oliver can rock it all night long!

Sharon: Whoo hooo that’s why I hired him!

But then, quick as a wink, Oliver snatches up his trumpet and plays along to the smooth sound of jazz by Chris Botti. And when When I fall in Love comes on, he grabs Kimberly, pulls her close and serenades her. When I fall in love…it will be forever. Then he gives a wild wink to the girls.

Kimberly Ah, a man who can appreciate some of the finer things in life, a slow song, a soft woman and a beautiful day in paradise. I may never leave.

But then a dramatic hush comes across cyber space as Oliver appears in a puff of blue smoke. The thundering organ grinds to The Phantom of the Opera. After a stellar performance, he grabs Hollie, dips her in grand style and does the Foxtrot with her, gazing into her eyes. When the song is over, he kisses her hand and winks. A little bird told me you used to love musicals and classical before the kids.

Hollie: oh my favorite *swoons in traditional English style

Oliver plucks up a white Stetson and plops it on his head. Swaggering his hips, he struts over to Cherokee, casting her a wicked wink. With a devilish smile, he croons it out to George Strait’s Amarillo by Morning. When the song ends, he lassoes her to his chest and bestows his Stetson on her head.

Cherokee: Oh, be still my heart, I think I may be falling in love…

And when 40 Cups of Coffee by Tennessee Ernie Ford blasts on the speaker, Oliver is sweeping Brenda off her feet, twirling and swirling her around with his fancy footwork before pulling her close. And when the song ends, he gazes into her eyes and winks.

Brenda: You Casanova you! What a flirt!

And when the beat pulsates to What I Like About You by the Romantics, Oliver grabs Maura out of her seat and shimmies down, grinning from ear to ear. He pulls her close and whispers in her ear, “Never wanna let you go, make me feel all right!” He ends the song with a wicked wink.

Maura: “After dancing to that song, especially with Oliver who can catch their breath
enough to talk!”

Oliver takes a sweeping bow. Hope y’all enjoyed the music. There’s plenty of cocktails and snacks and we still have dessert.

Sharon: Thank you, Oliver. Now it’s time for the panel of questions. I’ll present three questions. Answer the best you can…and remember. A prize from Bath & Body will be given to the best voted answer by the bloggers. And by the same token, a prize will be given to the best question a blogger asks. Now with no further ado, here they are:

Question Number One: While working at CTR, what is the zaniest event you can remember?

Question Number Two: Who would you like to see jump out of a cake on your birthday and why?

Question Number Three: If you could star in any literary fiction, which would it be and why would you want to be cast in this role?

And for the answers:

Karenne: hmmm, zaniest event…I think it the zaniest events are the eLoop chats on our Erotic Yahoo Group. With erotic authors and readers all talking about sex, books, and prizes, we go nuts! I also love the Latte Lounge events when we get tons of authors in there gabbing back and forth. I love to laugh.

Danielle: Oh boy, the zaniest event I can remember huh? Hold on, this splash of Vodka
has clouded my brain. Oh now I remember. Hollie mentioned earlier that she is the
coordinator for the Coffee Write. Well I like to participate but I don’t consider
myself much of a writer, so I try to cover it up with humor. I wrote a scene where
this girl was trying to get out of sleeping with this man and she suddenly found
this…ahem…sex toy that she used as a pretend knife. I laughed the whole time but
I don’t think the other writers appreciated my sense of humor. The one person I would
love to see jump out of a cake would have to be my all time favorite sexy hero, Hugh
Jackman. As for why, HELLO honey, he is HOT!! Has anyone ever read Sherrilyn
Kenyon’s Hunter novels? I always expect a huge yes and am surprised when people actually
haven’t read them lol. I would love to play Bride from Night Play. Not only was she
plus size, but she could kick some major butt! What more could you ask for a perfect
heroine than a woman who didn’t fit the typical stereotype when it comes to being
pretty bad *ss! Plus she gets to sleep with Vane! Wow baby! LOL.

Kimberly I think the zaniest event would have been my introduction to the Coffee Crew. I thought I would just review books and meet some people in cyberspace. All of a sudden… BOOM, my inbox was filled with some of the most outrageous comments and welcomes. Once I got done laughing and being anxious, I settled in for a long stay. (She blushes and adds) Now I’m the one with some of the outrageous welcomes. My birthday cake… I probably should say my husband, right? That is the correct answer! (looks over her shoulder) But he’s nowhere to be found…Colin Farrell. He’s a sexy Irish bad boy who knows how to have fun. As for a star of literary fiction… hmm… you are going to make me think on that one. Ooh, I got it, Lady Arwen from the Lord of the Rings books. She is so beautiful and kind, yet willing to sacrifice herself for love. To me, it is one of the greatest love stories of all time.

Delane:

The zaniest thing about our outstanding group is the crazy emails that go around. I love how everyone feels free to mention how scared we are of the Mistress beating us or some other crazy punishment. (Sorry mistress, please forgive me)

Oh Lord. Okay the politically correct answer would be my husband but (in a whisper with a wink) I would really love to see a cross between a biker and a cowboy with twinkling blue eyes, long jet black hair, 6’4, muscles everywhere and now I need to stop because well anyway. Can I have one of him, two if you can find them? TWINS! Pretty Please!! (I hope my Mom doesn’t see this, she thinks I am a good girl which I am REALLY)

Okay wow; let’s see I would like to star in a light submissive role. I don’t need someone to tell me what to do outside of the bedroom; I can lead my own life, but in the bedroom a man that takes charge makes me want to GROWL!!! Oh yeah, and if it involved a shape shifter well I would just be in heaven.

Hollie: Zaniest event?? It has to be the Samhain spring showers we had last year on the forum, 4 weeks of nonstop posting. I’m just happy I could take part and didn’t have to juggle the moderating for such a huge event but we did have a lot of fun.

Honestly?? Any of the CTR staff I spend so many hours working with and around them but live too far away to ever get to meet them.

Adela MacAye Roberts is the first (or last) Celtic witch in Lyn Armstrong’s Celtic witch series. Not only does she have an amazing kilt clad Scottish Laird but she goes on to have two amazing children who also have amazing powers.

Sabrina: 1) Hands down, The Live from RT chat in 2008. It was a 4 hour pure crazy event. We
had an author with her lap top having everyone stop by and say hi to us outside the
vampire ball. We got to talk with cover models and amazing authors. Whew that was
fun!
2) If I had to pick anyone to jump out of my cake i think it would have to be Joaquin
Phoenix - Before his funky stage he's in now.
3) This is a hard question. I am going to have to go with Beth from J.R. Ward's
Dark Lover. Let's face it who wouldn't want to be the one who tames big bad Wrath.
mmm Yum!

Cherokee: 1), I am sorry, a zany event doesn’t pop into my head, even though I know there are some there kicking me in the head. I will say the days that Danielle is away, and unable to post, are not as fun as when she is among us. She has this enthusiastic energy around her that just explodes when she sends out a message on the boards, and it always makes my day a bit brighter. Without her posting, as well as Delane, Hollie, and some of the others, the events would be too quiet. I am just glad there are some Coffee Time Reviewers who know how to bring out the zany and bring on the smiles.
2) Please give me Johnny Depp to jump out of the cake…the man can take on any role and deliver one hundred percent. Have him jump from the cake then carry me off to some island where some great adventures will begin.
3)Not sure if this one will count, but the characters in Thelma and Louise…I would want to be Susan Sarandon, and Karenne to be Geena Davis…the only different thing is we certainly would not go driving off the cliff…we would be having a rip-roaring good time, and no doubt get in tons of trouble.

Brenda: 1) The zaniest event I ever attended was off line. Karenne and I attended a convention in Reno. Trying to find authors we wanted to meet and introduce Coffee Time at the same time; was an arch-falling, vericose-vein popping, marithon dash through a hotel whose square footage was at least football field size!
2) Sigh... Is the Marlboro Man still alive? He is hot! I doubt he’d jump out of the cake. He’d probably just reach over; grab me, and lay one on me. That’s all my heart could stand anyway.
3) One of my literary favorites is Robin D. Owens Sorceress of Faith. The heroine is Marian who has powers needed in the alternate world. Magic and flying horses just appeal to me. I think I would enjoy a visit to another world.

Maura:
Pretty much anything in this group can get a little zany.
Our daily emails make me laugh constantly and the Tuesday night live chats can get
very wild.
I just had a birthday and whoever jumps out of that cake would have to be agile and
jump high enough to dodge all those candles!
Elena from Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld books; who wouldn’t like to be the only
female werewolf, her adventures… and Clayton.

Thank you ladies. I love your answers. Now who’s ready for dessert? Oh, Oliver, come on out with that scrumptious tray of treats.

Oliver swaggers out, wheeling a silver caddy filled with Strawberry and French Vanilla Pudding Cake, rhubarb crumble and custard, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, caramel bars, cheese cake, pie and oatmeal cookies, tiramisu and steaming pots of coffee and tea. He presents his culinary delights with a devilish wink. And before it has a chance to melt, he rushes a huge dish of coffee ice cream to Brenda and feeds her the first spoonful. Hoots and whistles filter through the air. Oliver preens. Who wants a piece of ice cream cake? He unveils the decadent treat and cuts the first piece for Maura. Now y’all give a shout if you need anything else. It’s been a pleasure. Enjoy!

Sharon: Thank you, Oliver. That brings us to the end of another Wednesday Spotlight. What’s that Oliver? Oh, all right, I’ll ask them. Oliver blushes a deep crimson red. Sharon sighs and turns to her guests. Oliver is requesting that you leave him a coffee crew rating on his performance. It’s up to you, my friends, but if you wish to make Oliver’s day, he will treasure a coffee cup rating. Thank you all for joining me today on Wednesday Spotlight. It’s been a blast.

How many cups does Oliver deserve:
Karenne: (leers at Oliver up and down) sigh, he brings coffee and snacks and turns on the Disco as well as a Disco Ball…5 Cups
Danielle: Oliver honey. I will give you a 4 cup rating. Now now, don’t be upset.
I only give 5 cup ratings to men who do a little strip tease. LOL. I am kinky like
that!
Danielle: Thank you Sharon so much for having me. I loved the questions, your sense
of humor, and Oliver’s amazing dance skills. Now if I could just get him out of his
butler uniform, it would make things that much spicier!

Kimberly: 5 cups with sprinkles, whipped cream (fantasies about Oliver spring to mind), oops, sorry, lost my concentration, oh, and a cherry on top. Thank you, Sharon! This has been so much fun. (Kisses Oliver’s cheek) Thank you, Oliver.

Sabrina: 5 cups perfect!

Holly: With all these goodies and and the wonderful dancing I say defiantly 5 cups

Delane: 5 Cups for the outstanding serenade and cocktail service!!!

Cherokee: I would most certainly give Oliver a 5 cup rating. He is a gentleman by far and knows how to treat ladies, right! He rocks!
And thank you, Sharon, for this wonderful time that we were able to share with you. I adored your questions and your warm personality. You are simply wonderful!

Brenda: Thank you very much for the lovely evening. Oliver, you are a gem. I think you deserve 5 cups if only for the blush!

Maura: Thanks Sharon, Oliver definitely deserves five cups with whipped cream and caramel
on top!

The overwhelmed Oliver passes out cold, a big smile on his face!

Sharon: Well, ladies, you did it. You made cabana boy’s day! Thank you all so very much. Now, relax and party on. Here come the readers and bloggers to ask you questions. And as soon as we can get Oliver to come around, he’ll be at the ready to make more cocktails!

Hello Coffee Crew! The beach party is going on strong and Oliver has recovered and is here to take drink orders. There are plenty of snacks, so eat, drink and be merry! The readers and bloggers will be over shortly to ask questions. And if any more CTR staff members drop over, please introduce yourself and flag down Oliver for a drink! Enjoy!

And just to get the ball rolling, I'll toss out a few questions. Remember bloggers, there is a prize for the best voted question and the best voted answer from Bath & Body! So get those questions ready for the crew. Oh, Oliver, do bring out those scones and muffins. And keep those drinks coming! Hi Hollie! This question is for you. And it's about your new passion, Coffee Writes. How long are they and is there a particular one that stands out? I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for the awesome interview you did with me and for the rave review on The Claddagh Ring. You made my day!

This is for Karenne. Hi Karenne! Just so everyone knows, you do the amazing maintenance on my website. And you also do those awesome newsletters for me. I get so many compliments. Stand up and take a bow. Oops, there she goes in her disco shoes, clapping and singing. Or is she chasing Oliver?

Sharon Donovan said...

Hi Delane! Wow, five children! And so many family members including yourself in the armed forces. You are to be commended! My question for you is about reading. Do you have a favorite genre to read and review and why?

Sharon

Sharon Donovan said...

Hi Kimberly! We all love contests, they just draw us in like magnets. Can you share with us a particular favorite one and why it stood out as memorable?
Sharon

Sharon Donovan said...

Hey Danielle! I love your comment about reading a genre you don't particularly like, but loving it because the author did such a fine job. That is something we all aim for. With your wonderful gift of gab and interesting background, did you ever consider a career in writing? Danielle, please! It's a bit too early to try and get Oliver out of his butler uniform. He has drinks to serve! LOL

Hi Sabrina! Wow, I bet you get some live wires in the live chats! Dare we ask why you bat your eyes so innocently? LOL Do dish!

Hi Cherokee! First of all, I agree. Karenne is super cool and really nice. Here here! Before I ask you a question, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you so very much for your rave review of Echo of a Raven. You just got it! Thank you so much. Now for the question. Drum roll....what is your favorite genre to read and review and why?

Hello Brenda! I would love to hear more about this convention you and Karenne attended in Reno. What fun. Did you find any new authors, and if so, are they a part of the coffee crew?
Sharon

Hywela Lyn said...

Lyn gallops up on a golden bucksin horse and Oliver rushes up to lift her out of the saddle.

Oliver, thank you. *sigh*. She leans against him just a fraction longer than absolutely necessary.
'Wonderful aftershave you're wearing today, Oliver. Oliver leads the horse into the shade of the trees and Lyn rushes over to hug Sharon. Hi Sharon, dear girlfriend. Looks like you're having a wondeful party here!

Hugs each of the Coffee Crew in turn.

Hi everyone. I've been a 'Coffee corner Author' for some time and had a lovely four star review from Cherokee last year for my debut novel 'Starquest'. I write mainly futuristic and fantasy. I love he genre because it helps me escape the troubles of the modern world and I love to imagine what other, or future worlds might be like. I'd like to ask the Coffee Crew, What are your favourtie genres and why?

Sharon Donovan said...

Hi Maura! Oh my goodness! We better be on our good behavior with a deputy sheriff on board. Oliver, did you hear that? Sharon sighs. But then again, Maura, you very well may have to arrest him or handcuff him before the day is through! LOL Now about your dogs. I find that so interesting, competitive obedience. My dog attended obedience school and at the end there was a ceremony. Here's what they said. "Buttons had perfect attendance!" Do tell us about this training!
Sharon

Sharon Donovan said...

Hey Lyn! Get over here and give me another hug if you can drag yourself away from Oliver! So you met everyone from the Coffee Crew? Karenne and her amazing staff. Yes we are having fun and Oliver is beside himself. Did you see his rave reviews! You know he passed out cold, but did so with a big smile. LOL Yes, Lyn, I love your books and Starquest was indeed a winner! Grab a chocolate muffin. Oh Oliver, if you can stop drooling for a second, drinks for all? Sharon sighs.

Hollie said...

Morning Sharon, Thank you Oliver Coffee would be lovely.

Coffee Write is my baby and is going better than i could have hoped for *grins proudly

Each month we have a new host author who sets a story, genre and main characters we then let it lose and see what happens. Everyday anyone can add a few paragraphs to the story taking it where they want.

We have had everything from fighting with WilliamI of england to aliens with 2 unmentioables. this month we have a regency murder mystery with some very nice looking men around feel free to come along and pay a visit or add a paragraph

Hollie said...

Hi Lyn it's great to see you here i haven't seen you in the coffee corner for a while.

my favorite genre would have to be fantasy/paranormal anything with a make believe element to it. I never really grow up (it's why i love working with kids) so the make believe still rules my heart and as any true romance lover a happy ever after is a must.

Sharon Donovan said...

Oliver winks wildly at Hollie as he brings her a steaming mug of coffee. He blushes and bows. Thank you for the grand review, Hollie. May I...ah...have your autograph? Lyn clears her throat. Oliver holds up his finger. Your Earl Grey is coming right up, Lyn. Hold your horses! There's plenty of Oliver to share! Grin!

Danielle, you have such an interesting story and great "voice" - why aren't you writing?
And Lyn, I'm envious of your modes of transportation!
I actually had to skim because I'm going out of town in a half hour (and am still not dressed, yikes) but will come back later to spend more time, hopefully the party will still be going on!

Hywela Lyn said...

Lyn manages to take her eyes off the gorgeous Oliver long enough to run across to Sharon and give her a big squeeze and hug. This is a great party Sharon, thanks so much for inviting me along.

Hollie - I think you've hit the nail on the head! That's why I love fantasy too - after all fantasy is really adult fairy stories - and science fiction is fairy tales with scientific explanations for the 'magic'! And yes, a HEA is definitely essential.I'm lurking a lot these days, I'm afraid, just busy trying to write and promote, although I do try to pop into Coffee time forum chats when I can (Can't make it to the 'real time' chats unfortuntely, because of the time difference in the UK.)

Ah Oliver, tea and chocolate brownies -lurvly, you are such a sweetie!

Sharon Donovan said...

Welcome to the beach party, Cate! By all means, do come back later on. I'm sure the party will still be going on. And Oliver, my butler/cabana boy will be quite anxious to meet you and serve you drinks! Look out.
Lyn, you are quite welcome. Big hugs right back. Oh, thank goodness Oliver finally brought you a round of tea. Sharon holds up her still empty cup. Oliver, wouldn't mind a cup of coffee? Oliver! Oliver, if you could stop pumping your biceps for a second, could use a cup!

Sharon, what a fantastic party. Can I borrow Oliver for a few minutes? See, I only beg for a few minutes, not more. He can bring... Oh forget the drinks. Just bring yourself, Oliver... I had a chat a few months ago at Coffee Time Romance but had a lot of time accessing the site and then posting. My questions is how long does it takes you to review a book after its release? Thank you.

Beth Trissel said...

Hi Coffee Time ladies. So good to 'meet' you. Wow, what a lot of diversity there in this crew. I'm a farmwife/mother/grandmom and can identify with Karenne and all you family centered gals. The library was a second home growing up so I hear you, Delane. Danielle, my husband and I were highschool sweethearts and been together ever since. :) Brenda, I love farm life and am a gardener too. Maura, I don't excel at dog training but love them and have several. Also love cats and rescue many on our farm.
OK, so I have four novel length releases out with the Wild Rose Press now, my first release, Somewhere My Love won the 2008 Preditors & Editors Readers Poll for Best Romance novel, and my three May releases have all won book of the week from LASR, but I don't have any reviews from you guys yet. :(
How do you choose what to review?

Hollie said...

Lyn
I don't make it to the 'Live' chats either i'm in York so i have the same time difference problem you do

Hollie said...

Hi Mona

How long does it take to review a book that depends on a lot of things we say as an average 4-6 weeks but depending on how busy everyoe is it can take less than that. But the good news is you don't need to wait untill you book is released for us to review it we do advance reviews as well.

Sharon Donovan said...

Mona, you asked for it. Here comes Oliver, drooling and making a bee-line...oops...there he leaps over the volley ball net to you! He's all yours for the moment. Enjoy!
Sharon

Hollie said...

Hi Beth, if you want a review from us you need to contact the review-co-ordinator the easiest way to do that is to fill in the request form in our review area. here: http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/formmail/index.php?ReviewRequestForm

Sharon Donovan said...

Hi Beth! So glad you could join the party. Aw, sweet. You and hubby were high school sweethearts! Have you written about it? I'm a big dog/cat/horse lover too! If you can manage to flag Oliver down, he'll getcha a drink. Help yourself to muffins and scones. Oh, Lyn, can I take a romp on your beautiful horse on the beach?

Beth Trissel said...

OK, Hollie. I assumed The Wild Rose sent out my releases to you.

Beth Trissel said...

Sharon, yes, I've written about it. :)

Hollie said...

Hi Beth,
I know some of the publishers send books but i'm not sure how that works wait untill Miss Brenda gets here she is our review expert and should be able to answer your questions better than me

Hywela Lyn said...

Sharon, of course, it's a lovely day for a canter along the beach, enjoy!

Holly, it's a shame about the time differences isn't it, but there's not a lot we can do about it.

Like Beth, I'm publshed with The Wild Rose Press, who send all their releases out to Coffee Time for reviews. I'd love to have another Coffee time review for my sequel 'Children Of The Mist' but I imagine you're pretty inundated with review requests.

Cherokee said...

Good Morning Sharon, so good to be here today. Sorry Oliver was a bit late delivering drinks earlier, he was giving me a nice massage, it really helped to relieve some stress.
Now to the business: For all those who have not read Echo of a Raven, what are you waiting for? The book is fabulous!
My favorite genre most of the times is a good mystery. I love trying to guess who the culprit is, and absolute love it when authors leave the reader hanging until the final page, the twists and turns along the way are really great.
Good question.

Hollie said...

Yes Lyn sometimes the time difference really bugs me i always seem to be going to bed whe the Crew have a party - they call it a live chat but i've seen the mess they leave behind any teenager would be proude of them lol.

As i said best to ask Brenda or Karenne about reiews as a reviewer i'm not involved in that side of it we try to keep things as un-biased and fair as we can. so a don't pick what books we review we are given them. I love that it is a lovely suprise when i get up on book day and get to look through my new books never knowing what i'm going to get

Hollie said...

Hi Cherokee,

how are you today my lovely? feeling well I hope

Sharon Donovan said...

Hello, Cherokee! Aw, aren't you sweet! Thank you so much for the kind words about Echo of a Raven. And so glad Oliver was able to sooth your blues away. He's good at massages. Wink. What would you like to drink? I'm sure Oliver will be happy to oblige! About the mystery/suspense books, they're my favorite. A good who done it with lots of twists and turns to the last page! Mingle and enjoy! Oh Oliver, my coffee cup is still empty, darlin'. Did you forget about me?

Miss Mae's squeals are heard coming from behind the live oak tree...

Stop it, Oliver, stop it! No! No, baaad butler!

Sound of slap rings in the air...

Miss Mae appears, feathered hat askew atop her disheveled hair, and her cheeks flushed with intense annoyance. Glaring at Oliver, she warns him, "This is MY flask and you can't have it!"

She looks up, sees Sharon and the whole blooming gang of the Coffee Crew watching this interlude with muffled gaffaws.

Smiling brightly, she rushes forward. "Good morning, all! There's still plenty!" She raises the glittering sequined flask in her gloved hand as evidence.

And now Karenne and her crew are muttering to each other, "That genteel author is bringing us watered down lemonade. Land sakes, there goes the party!"

However, little do they know...fiendish laughter echoes through cyberspace...

Sharon Donovan said...

Oh,what fun to horseback ride on the beach. Thanks, Lyn. Oh, we need more snacks. Oh Oliver! Bring on the chocolates and potato chips, pretzel mix, fresh fruit. Oh there you are, feeding chocolate strawberries to the CTR staff!

Hollie said...

Miss Mae

glad you could join us your flask looks interesting mind if i borrow it for a few seconds?

Miss Mae said...

Good morning to Karenne and her crew. I'd like to say how much I enjoy the forum, it's filled with so much stuff I could just stay there all day, but if I did, I certainly wouldn't get any writing done! LOL

I really appreciate how you do so much for authors. My group, The Sweetest Romance Authors, just finished a chat in the Latte Lounge and we had a blast. Now Karenne has given us our own spot in the Java Junction, and I've graduated to the rank of Cappucino Member. Whoo-hoo!

Karenne, I'd like to ask: What inspired you to create the forum, and how long have you kept it going? Do you ever get bored?

Unknown said...

Oh my gosh, I haven't laughed this hard in so long. Just what I needed today! I am still dancing with Oliver so I will be catching up on the questions and everything else while you all ask questions.

I do have a question though. Behind every group is a really cool "how we got here story", who and what was the inspiration for the CTR Crew?

Val

Sharon Donovan said...

Hey hey Miss Mae is here! Oh, she has us all fooled, such a sweet Southern Bell. Little do they know. She has been known to lace the lemonade with whatever is in that pretty jeweled flask. Sharon holds out her still empty coffee cup. Since Oliver is otherwise engaged, pour me a little snort or two. Come on now, MM, don't be stingy! Wink wink.
Sharon

Sharon Donovan said...

Hey Val! Great you could join the beach party. Don't you worry, there will be plenty of dancing and volley ball. So put on your dancing shoes, girlfriend! Oops, here comes Oliver for another spin. Oliver leaps high in the air, clapping his hands overhead, bellowing the words, Y -- M-- C--A! He just loves the Village People. Y -- M-- C--A!!! He pumps his biceps and winks a wicked wink!

K.M. Daughters said...

Substitute Oliver (sorry Oliver) with Mr. Romance contenders and the dance scene could be the script for next year's RT M.R. Award Ceremony...get ready to take the stage, ladies. Such a creative, unique interview. Awesome, Sharon! Our question is: With the distracting interaction of such a vibrant, creative ensemble how in the world do you get all you do, done?

Hywela Lyn said...

Hello Miss Mae, Hello Val - and hello Cherokee and anyone I may have missed! This party is hopping up! Yes, I will have a drop of your nie cool lemonade, thanks so much MM> (Lyn grins conspitatorily as MM pours her a generous glassfull.) Yes that was a good chat you and your group had in the Latte Lounge, wasn't it!

Glad you enjoyed your ride Sharon,, is it OK if I borrow Oliver a moment? I'm going to sit in the shade under that tree for a while and I'd um - I'd like to - - um, I was hoping perhaps you cold bring me some of those scrumptious chocolate dipped strawberries, Oliver.

Hollie said...

How do we get everything do oh that is easy Karenne nags no really we have a system and as long as everyone sticks to it things run smoothly. we all do our own bit and it all gets done over the month.

we all help each other and spend alot of time chatting about our lives at home so it is like having an extra family and like any family we all muck in and help each other

Kathy Otten said...

Hi Sharon,

Looks like quite the party going on at your place. Oliver is a real hottie. I've never seen him before.
I have a couple of quick questions.
1. How do the reviewers choose their books and stories to review and--2. Have any author's ever gotten upset over a review and written a rude or nasty letter to you?

Sharon Donovan said...

Hey, my white rose sisters--K.M Daughters. Welcome! Yes Oliver is quite the man and quite the ham. Oliver comes over and winks at the sisters. Then when Pina Colata blasts over the beach, he twirls in and out, taking them both for a spin. Did his eyes just glaze over?
Sharon

Hollie said...

Hi Kathy

I love your questions

1 we don't pick our books we are given them so yes some authors don't like the review they are given.

2 no i have only had a few replys usually if an author gets a bad review they ignor it and a few will ask what the problem was and try to use it as a postive learning experience. I have heard about one or two really nasty replys.

Sharon Donovan said...

Hi Kathy. Welcome to the beach party. Oliver will be happy to bring you a drink, coffee, tea, soda, water or alcoholic beverage. Yes, Oliver insisted his picture be hung. Just between us, he's getting a wee bit too big for his britches! Wink. But anyway, Lyn was visiting the other day and took his photo. He made her pin it up. So, alas...there's Oliver!
Sharon

Sharon Donovan said...

Oh all right, Lyn. But good luck dragging Oliver away. Oh, here he comes now. And he has a fan in his hand. He's gesturing to that nice palm tree over there where there are plenty of chocolate covered strawberries left. Sigh. Where is Miss Mae with more...ah...of the good stuff in her flask? Oops, I'm a bit tipsy from the first cup. What's that, Oliver? No it is not time to jump out of the cake yet. Settle down. What? You want more of MM's lemonade straight up? Oliver, so help me if you get drunk and make a fool of yourself!

Hello CoffeeTime Ladies! I just wanted to stop by and say thanks to all your great work. I've been blessed with some terrific reviews. Thanks again for all you do.

Question: What are the hardest reviews for you to write?

Sharon Donovan said...

Hi Jane. Oliver rushes out, Miller in hand, pumping biceps. When he's through drooling, he twirls her around and around. Oliver has more energy than the energizer!
Sharon

Sharon Donovan said...

Hi Tanya. Welcome to the beach party! Just give your drink order to Oliver and dig into the snacks. Oh here come more fudge brownies. Happy belated anniversary!
Sharon

Hollie said...

Hi Cindy

This may sound daft but the hardest reviews to write are the really good ones. I always want to go on and on about the story but a review isn't supposed to retell the story. so I always have a hard time deciding what to put in the reveiw and what to miss out

Sharon Donovan said...

Hi Sabrina! Welcome! If you can catch Oliver's eye, he'll be happy to bring you something to drink. Oh, I can imagine the wicked fun of those live chats. Authors and wine and everything fine! LOL Mingle and enjoy! Sharon dances off, snapping her fingers to girls just wanna have fun.

Hey Cindy! Oh, so you've met Oliver. Oliver feeds Cindy a chocolate dipped strawberry, pumping his biceps. Sharon rolls her eyes. He may never be the same! He's in his glory.

Oliver gets a mischievous gleam in his eye. Picks up Miss Mae, kicking and screaming, petticoats flapping in the breeze and tosses her in to the ocean. Her feathered hat rolls away on a wave. Did I mention Oliver doesn't get mad...he gets even. LOL

Oliver beams his most brilliant smile as he struts over to where Cherokee lounges on a chaise lounge. He kneels at her feet and massages her feet. Then he feeds her a double dipped chocolate strawberry. And then another...

Miss Mae said...

Ha! Miss Mae is used to fighting alligators in algae filled swamps! An ocean is nothing but a vigorous spa bath to her!

Gripping the surfboard, she carries it high and runs after Oliver. With one strong whack, she lands it across the side of his head.

Hmm, the board cracks...

But Miss Mae snatches her flask, speeds to Karenne and yells, "He's all yours, ladies!"

Miss Mae said... Miss Karenne, I'd like to ask: What inspired you to create the forum, and how long have you kept it going? Do you ever get bored?

I love my forums. they are my babies. We started those because the Yahoo Groups, Google, Groups, and AOL Groups where just not reliable. Plus you have that'spammer' thing (shudders)

I created these to have book lovers all in one place. There are authors, publisher, author groups, hobbies, Coffee Write, Latte Lounge, writing seminars, All sorts of fun for book lovers.

We have had those about 3 years. And I could not keep those up without my two spify helpers, Dani and Hollie! They are a treasure to me!

Hywela Lyn said...

Lyn grins at Oliver, running up the beach clutching Mis Mae's patent recipe to his chest - almost as if it were one of his 'ladies!' She shaders her eyes from the sun, to watch MM skilfully surfing the waves back to shore, the feathers of her hat drooping damply, but otherwise none the worse for her experience.

Hi everyone, I think I must have dozed off. That recipe is mighty potent. Hello to everyone who's turned up while I was napping - er I mean working out the plot for my next story, of course. Cherokee - I think I thanked you at the time, but thanks again for the lovely review of Starquest - I'm still quoting it!and thanks for the kind words here, too.

This was an idea that was started on a front porch one evening while gabbing with family. Karen was sitting on her porch and talking books and such and decided to create a Yahoo group for her family to talk about what they have read and what they liked. Then friends joined and then (poof) the website was born. hmm, I wish it was poof instead of that blood, sweat, and tears and lots of LATE NIGHT PHONE CALLS lol

Hey Sharon,
This is delightful.
(The first notes of Anne Murray's "You needed me drift from the stereo.) Oliver tip toes ovrer and grabs Laurie by one hand to lead her to the dance floor. He waltz her around the room, while the other ladies narow their eyes and watch with envy.

Oliver has lost all sense of time and space as he swirls Laurie around, dips her, and swirls her again.

They are half way through the number when, "Plunk!" Oliver is oblivious to the fact that he's just knocked the recipe flask from Miss Mae's hand.

Laurie hears the "Oomph!" feels Oliver go slack in her arms, and peers into his crossed eyes, just before he thumps the ground.

Miss Mae stands nearby beaming while she slaps the weapon, a closed parasol, in her hand. She winks. "That'll teach him to be more careful."

Laurie is frantic. "Oh dear! Miss Mae, was that the last of the recipe? What SHALL we do?"

Sharon Donovan said...

Karenne, welcome! And Oliver has brought you a nice mug of coffee and...oh...here he comes with a chocolate strawberry with your name on it...and a wicked smile. He remembers that slap you gave him the last time! LOL

Good Morning, Sharon! Hi, Oliver! Could I get a vanilla cappuccino please? I need a caffeine fix!
All of the contests I do are special, there is not one that stands out. I love interacting with the authors. Some of them have these incredible ideas for their contests. And has anyone seen the prizes they have been giving away? They are just getting bigger and better all the time.
My favorite genres are Paranormal romance, contemporary romance with GLBT (Gay,Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transsexual, for those who don't know) thrown in for a little spice.
Paranormal romance allows me to see the world in a totally different way and imagine the possibilities. Contemporary romance is for those days when I'm just having a bad day and need to read about normal people living normal lives. GLBT is a genre I would never have read until our lovely and beautiful review coordinator passed one to me for review. I fell in love with the genre. It is like contemporary romance it just involves people who are sometimes of the same sex. They are incredible love stories.
As for getting any work done? That would be the Mistress (Karenne) and Brenda standing over us with whips... I mean, offering encouragement. (Now, I'll be locked in the attic for sure!)

Hywela Lyn said...

Google hates me! I don't exactly love it back, either!

Hi Lauren - did you manage to save the recipe MM? Poor Oliver looks a bit dazed!

Having spent abut ten minutes trying to get back in after it booted me off I'm going to just sit here and listen for a while - and I'd also like to add my appreciation to all the Coffeetime crew - you -as the saying goes - rock, ladies!

Sabrina said...

Oh thank you Mistress... *cough* I mean Karenne. Runs to attic-Woo hoo Ladies did you hear that? We might get a Christmas present this year!!!!!!

Sharon Donovan said...

Oliver, why are you rubbing your head? Are you hung over already? What's that? Miss Mae hit on you and then cracked you over the head with a surf board. Oliver. Sharon puts her hand on her hip. Don't you mean you hit on her? Out with it? But Oliver is swinging Karenne to Staying Alive as the disco ball turns. He shakes and shimmies his hips as they run along the beach belting it out at the top of their lungs.

Anonymous said...

Really, Karenne? An Oliver for Christmas? (rubbing my hands in delight) Bless you!
I have more problems writing reviews about the really bad books. The thing with CTR is Be Nice! So, I try to tell an author their book is bad, yet I have to be nice about it. And, yes, I have had a few. Not many, but a few. That is a hard review for me to write.

Cherokee said...

Cindy asked: What are the hardest reviews for you to write?

I would have to say those that really prick at my heart and make me want to jump through cyberspace and give the author a huge hug for bringing such joy into my life. I always like for my reviews to speak from the heart, and show how much I really did love the book, and sometimes it is hard to find the exact wording I am searching.

Hope that makes sense
Oliver can I have some sweet ice tea, please, I am cooking lasagna for you later.

Hi Sharon
The Reno convention was crazy for a newcommer. We saw Nora Roberts covered with fans and were very lucky to talk to Stephanie Laurens. What a joy. We also were able to meet in person one of our reviewers. Did I tell you I am the Review Coordinator? Yep. One of our reviewers at the time was Gwynn Morgan. We never met until Reno. The RWA Convention that year was a hoot!

Hi Mona,

To answer your question about the amount of time it takes to review a book: We advertise that the reviews are completed in two to four weeks. That gives us time for 3 levels of editing (ask Karenne for details about her editors) and the administrative time necessary to notify publishers and authors of the completions once it is on the site. Two weeks is rare because our reviewers need that time to read as well as write the review. Three to four weeks is more likely.
That three to four weeks is from the time the reviewers receive the books. Books are not handed out as soon as they are received. Additional time may come into play if the book is received up to two weeks prior to their distribution. Sounds complicated? A little. I've been the Review Coordinator for quite a while so I've become used to the drill. I'm sorry that it sounds like a slow process, but we are very careful to take care in all that we do.

Brenda

Sharon Donovan said...

Hi Brenda. Welcome! Oh how exciting to meet all those authors. You know Nora Roberts was the first romantic suspense author I ever read. I thought she just wrote romance and I loved the MacGregors, all her trilogies-- especially the Gallaghers of Ireland and the Chesapeake Bay and the one about the three witches. But I love suspense and think I read every one. I also love Lisa Jackson, James Patterson and Sandra Brown, Tami Hoag and Lisa Gardner. Oh I could go on and on! Oh I've just finished You've Been Warned by Patterson. Loved it. I also like the J.D. Robb futuristic series about Eve and Rork. Yum!!Here comes Oliver to take your drink order. Mingle and enjoy!

Sharon

Unknown said...

Hi Beth,

Congratulations! Wow! You should have started writing earlier.
How do we choose books to review?
Well, we cater to our reviewers. We think that the best reviews come from people who like the genre that they read. Our reviewers choose what genre they want to read and I send the books to them. We are somewhat restricted, because we receive many more books than we can review, so it's a combination of things that result in the book going out for review. Things like how many books we have for review from the publisher, if the reviewer requested the book, whether the author requested the book, and if the book meets our requirements for review that are found on our site. We just can't guarantee that a book will be reviewed although with our book-a-holics we try very hard!!

Anyways ladies you all rocked today!

How scary for you, Mary! The gods smiled on you today! Whew!!
Glad you could make it.

Sharon Donovan said...

Brenda, you've lived in so many different places. Do you have a favorite? What was Germany like? And five cats? I was always a dog lover until I got a cat. They really have their own personalities, don't they? I bet all yours are different. What kind are they? Oh here comes Oliver with your mocha frappichino. Oops, he dropped off some buttered popcorn for Kimberly, stares while she munches. Sharon shakes her head. Oliver, you naughty boy!

Sharon,
We like to joke around and have fun, I think that is why we all get along so well. We all come from different walks of life yet we have the same interest, books. Karenne welcomes us all with open arms (and these really neat white jackets that buckle in the back).I swear she is wonderwoman!

Mary Ricksen said...

Thank you Kimberly.
Hello everyone, is anyone out there?
Oliver, Oliver...Can I have a touch of recipe before I have to go pick up my car? Oliver...
Mary walks the whole area.
It musta been that one bad review I got? Lyn remember that? You keep me from quitting. I could use an honest review where I don't get trashed. I get advise. Now that is a good review to me. Do you ladies try to tell your reviewee what to do to improve? She apologized to me her mom was very ill. I felt bad for her.
Lyn? Hey where is everyone?

Anonymous said...

Oh goodness, Sabrina! I forgot those lovely jackets!
Mary, I have a hard time telling a writer what to fix in their book. My review is my opinion and where I may find a story not to my taste, someone else may love it! Now, if the story has spots where it drags, I'll tell the author. There are some authors who don't want the criticism. If an author asks what I had problems with, I am happy to tell them.

Mary Ricksen said...

Well car place just called. Oh I see you your at the other end. "Hi everyone be back in awhile, hope you are all still here. This time difference stinks. But may I say this Sharon and all CTR ladies?
You sure sound like you are an amazing bunch of close nit, intelligent, and caring people, who have bonded on the net. Who woulda thought, when I was a kid this would all be by mail.
This blog made me laugh, and taught me a bit about reviewing. I think a review that teaches the author how to fix her mistakes is the best kind of review. I respect that in you all try to do that.
It must be a difficult thing and yet a rewarding thing at the same time.
So see you all later, hopefully.

Hi Lyn!

Mary Ricksen said...

I understand Kimberly. Me I'd rather hear, you need to do this or that to improve your story. But other people might not like that. Is a review supposed to be a personal book report on what you think of a story?
Or is it a critique of the book and the writing?
I always wanted to ask someone who is a pro at this, that question.
I am serious and ask with the utmost respect.
Oliver, please I need a swing, now! Just one before I leave please.

Danielle said...

Hi Sharon! I am super excited to be here. Sorry it took me so long but I will be in and out all day. Dr. appts as well as the dreaded school supply shopping! Goodness me. LOL. Sharon, I would love love love to be a writer but I have a really bad attention span when it comes to writing. I have a tendency to get 100 pages into the story I am writing and then I kind of forget about it and throw it away. No need to yell and scream, my husband does that enough. He says I could be THE NEXT GREAT AUTHOR!! Maybe they should do a reality show like that? LOL.

Danielle said...

Hi Lyn! My favorite genre has got to be paranormal. I love how many different unique characteristics and ways to write the genre. For example, you have vampires that drink blood from their victims and were originally turned through another vampire. Then you have those who were changed scientifically and still others that are aliens from another planet. All are vampires just made way different.

Danielle said...

Hi Cate. Thanks and I am continuously struggling to write. I even have these great ideas at 2 in the morning while I am trying to sleep lol. Just that small attention problem lol.

Sharon Donovan said...

Hey Mary! There you are and here comes Oliver with a swig of the recipe for you. Bottoms up! How terrible for you with the brakes, yikes! Yes your angel was with you today. Come back. We'll still be chatting.

Danielle said...

Hi Mona! I think total time frame is between 4 and 6 weeks for reviews to be completely done. Personally it takes me just a smidgen of time to finish up a review. I read between 2 and 4 books a day. But then it goes through that wonderful editing process where my sometimes too quick fingers are spellchecked lol. And like Hollie says, we can do ARC's Advanced Readers Copy which is great and keeps us a little ahead of the game at times lol.

Sharon Donovan said...

This question is for Karenne:
How does the Brass Spectacle Magazine fit in with Coffee Time Romance & More?
And my second question goes out to the coffee crew:
Coffee Time Romance & More is so huge with so many different rooms and lounges. How long did it take you to find your way around before you felt comfortable? Did you ever get lost and wind up in the wrong forum or chat room or lounge? If so, what did you do?

Danielle said...

Hi Beth! *Waving from Northern Michigan* Isnt' being high school sweethearts grand? Anyway, as for how we choose which books to review, there are certain guidelines that CTR on a whole follow: https://www.coffeetimeromance.com/reviewsguidelines.html However, as for individual reviews, we have this great survey that we fill out that tells our lovely Brenda and Karenne what we do and do not like to read. Even then, there are times we get books that may not be our first choice. But like I commented earlier, those genres I don't always care for can come back and shock me into realizing that "Hey that was a really really good book!"

Danielle said...

Hi Lastnerve! I have had a few days where my kids have definitely had me on my last nerve. Anyway, as for the inspiration, I am not sure what Karenne was thinking when she added me to her CTR Crew lol. I think she really just likes to use her whips on me! My personal inspiration honestly is that someday I would love to become an author and I hope that with the detail that I put into my reviews, it will eventually work with my writings.

Anonymous said...

We have a structure that we stick to here at CTR. We tell readers a little bit about two of the characters, then about the plot. The fourth paragraph is where we tell our readers why we did or didn't like the story. Sometimes it is about the way the story is set up and told, other times it is a variety of things. Check out our review page: http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/reviews.html
Then you can see for yourself.

Danielle said...

K.M. Hello! How do I get everything done?...Alcohol and earplugs...Lol. No seriously, I listen to the soundtrack of The Phantom of the Opera while I write. I look a little demonic myself swaying to the music, my hair sticking straight up, and sometimes mumbling uncontrollably. I have even been known to yell at the paragraphs for not sounding the way I want them to lol.

Danielle said...

Hi Kathy and great questions.
1. How do the reviewers choose their books and stories to review and--We don't both Brenda and Karenne (the lovely ladies) hand them out and we just put our noses to the grindstone.
2. Have any author's ever gotten upset over a review and written a rude or nasty letter to you?--I have unfortunately gotten a really nasty letter before because I gave an author what they consider a bad review. I cried and wanted to defend myself because they said things about me that weren't even true at all but I was told not to and Karenne stuck up for me. That is one of the main reasons I am proud to be a CTR Crew Member. Because when the going gets tough, Karenne will have your back 100%. That is one heck of a boss right there!

Wait we are supposed to know our way around?? LOL!
It took me a while to get the hang of things. I am by no means the super mod like Dani and Hollie but I can putz around. We have so many fun authors and great topics that its hard not to comment. Not to mention it's a great way to hear about great books and authors that you might not have heard about before. It's also a hoot to hear someone ask a question to us about a book when the author of said book pops in and shocks the reader with a personal answer.

Danielle said...

Tanya, congrats! 35 years huh!? That is alot of hard work and determination. Way to go

Anonymous said...

Coffee Time can be a tad overwhelming, but for the most part, it really isn't too hard to find your way around. I've ended up in some interesting places, but with those places, come very interesting people. I'm the one who likes forge my own path, so I never end up somewhere I'm not supposed to be. I'm always where I am for a reason.

Danielle said...

Cindy,
For me personally the hardest are the genres that I have no interest in that I did not enjoy reading either. I have to then look at them in a different light because I would hate to judge a book on the genre alone and not give it credit where credit is due.

Hi Danielle! How awesome, you're here! I know, it's back to school time again. Pittsburgh is a rainy day today. We haven't had much of a summer, hot and humid and a lot of electrical storms. But here comes Oliver and he hasn't forgotten what you said to him. Wink. You've created a monster and there is no living with him now! He puffs his chest out. I really hope you can write a book, or finish it. Sounds like you've got a great start. Follow your heart. That's my advice. Never give up on a dream! Mingle and enjoy.
Sharon

Danielle said...

Hi Mary! I try not to give advice because I figure a plastic surgeon does not want his patient telling him how to do his job lol. But I have been known to throw certain things into my review. I had one review where I stated the author spent 3 pages describing what a person was going to wear but then spend half a page on an important life changing event. The author came back and thanked me for pointing it out. But I try not to state my opinion because well...I am very opinionated lol. Danielle means judge according to the baby name book lol.

Hi Sharon,

Sorry to log in so late. I will be around for a little while then off to dog training and then I will be back. OK,I have three dogs, all of whom have at least one AKC Obedience or Rally Title. My German Shepherd Major has a Rally Novice Title and is retired from the ring. He is a German bred boy who just gets stressed out at dog shows. My two year old Bichon Pogo also has a Rally Novice title and a long career ahead of him. Angel the six year old Golden Retriever has progressed through Rally Novice, Advanced and Excellent, has a Companion dog title also and is now working on Companion dog excellent. Obedience is quite a bit stricter than Rally which has been likened to an obedience scavenger hunt. There is a large ring with from 13 to 15 stations. Each station has a sign with a different obedience exercise. You do the exercise and move on to the next. Regular obedience follows a fairly strict pattern with set exercises and is much more precise. It isa great way to have fun with your dogs and you meet some pretty wonderful people too. Other AKC sports include agility, flyball(you see those on Animal Planet), herding, earthdog(really Wild), tracking, and lure coursing(picture greyhounds chasing a plastic bag around a field). I don't do the beauty contest stuff like you see on Westminster, but all of my dogs have relatives who have been there(my first German Shepherd's grandfather actually got Best in Show there.

Wow Maura I love German Shepherds, we have a huge black one right now. Usually we have two at a time. Thinking of getting another one. I don't need to show or breed, just a family pet with good hips. Almost every one of my five shepherds has had bad hips. Next we'll have to look to Germany for a dog not too inbred?
I'd like to save one.

Anyway hello to anyone I haven't said hello to before, and it's great to see some more dog lovers.
I have a daffy rescued Jack Russell myself, who absolutely exudes love, I wouldn't change him for anything - even Oliver!

I'm going to attempt to catch up now, but this place is buzzing!

maura said...

Hi Mary,

I have been lucky, both Major and Baron had good hips(Baron died due to complications from DM though). The German bred boys tend to be much more high energy than the Americans and are straighter across the back. You don't have to import one, if you look for people who participate in Schutzhund(police dog trials for fun)they might be able to hook you up with a healthy one. Schutzhund is VERY demanding and some pretty incredible dogs are not cut out for it and need to find other homes.

Danielle said...

Kimberly I could never consider you anything other than a friend! Same goes for everyone. It always amazes me how much we get to know each others nuances even though we have not for the most part, seen what each other looks like or even sound like. Oliver is being passed around now? Well, I have been with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office a little over twenty years. I work in the Headquarters Bureau which means that I take the inmates everywhere they have to go, court, doctors, prison, funerals, etc. I have leg shackles as well as handcuffs, so Oliver can't run away.

Oh poor you Mary lol. It is weird how different terminology is used in different areas lol. When I lived in New York it was Pop. When I moved to Michigan it became Soda, although I still use the word Pop lol. Someplaces people use the phrase Sodapop. Other places you say that and you will get an ice cream float. I know in places down South everything is a Coke. I don't live anywhere near Oceans and such but I live about 20 miles south of Lake Michigan. Turn your right hand so your palm is facing your face. Look at the tip of your ring finger. That is where I live lol.

what I like to read and review? Good literature first and foremost. Erotic and erotica that's well written.

I like stories with STORY and CHARACTERIZATION. Yeah and Old fashioned...

Being an author, I'm MUCh harder on the books that come my way when I can review. Ask Brenda, we've gotten into fights over the shit that I've had to read...

I prefer doing interviews. less time taken and while I read MUCh less than I'd like, I still get to network with other authors.

Working with all these crazy bit-her women? I'm hardly ever there. Not even time to busy Karen's chops anymore sadly due to writing schedule.

Sharon, before coming to Coffee Time Romance I had been on another forum (that has nothing to do with books) that was quite similar in set up, so I already knew how to move around the forums. I know that a lot of people seem to have some problems finding things, but we have a Posting Pointers section on the forums and the link is sent out in the welcome message, so that if anyone has problems they can click on that link and be taken to the threads that can help them. Of course there are the moderators like my self, Hollie, and Sabrina (just to name a few) that are there to help when someone needs it and if we can't solve the problem we hand it over to the "Big Boss" (Karenne).

You know I haven't heard the term 'pop' used for a drink for years. When I was a little girl growing up in Wales, it was used to descibe any fizzy drink. Now we tend to just call any drink that isn't alcoholic, a 'soft' drink. What's that Oliver. More of Miss Mae's recipe, thank you, don't mind if I do!

Sharon Donovan said...

Maura, did we get you a drink? What will you have? Hmmm. My new suspense I'm writing is all about an inmate being transported from one prison to the other by a deputy sheriff. If I run into questions, can I fire a few your way? Oh, which brings me to another topic of conversation. Something I am a real stickler about. Accurate research. How about it? Does anyone find that annoying when an author doesn't research something you know about and you shake your fist screaming it isn't so? I do that and it really bugs me. Research is key for a good and believable novel, fiction or not.

Funny, but true! Shortly after moving to Oklahoma, we went out to dinner. The waitress asked what we would like to drink. My hubby ordered a beer and I ordered a Coke. She asked me what kind? I looked at her funny. She said, "We have Coke, Pepsi or Dr. Pepper." I learned that the hard way. When we lived in Pennsylvania, I ordered a pop (like a MI girl would) and the waiter looked at me like I had lost my mind. Everything there was soda!

Hi Lyn, you're back girlfriend! Oh and you have some of MM's recipe. And isn't it great to have all this information about dogs from Maura! Is Mary still here or did she go to get her car? Here's a vodka and cranberry pop, Danielle. Yes, pop vs soda has gotten me into a fix a few times. I'm in Pittsburgh and even as close as Ohio it differs. We use pop and they use soda and sometimes it's better to just point at the picture on the menu. LOL. Yes isn't it something how certain dogs are more prone to hip problems and other diseases. My sister just lost her 6 year old dog, part Great Dane to cancerous tumors. The vet said it's common in Great Danes. And he only had a little in him.

Sabrina -- You really do keep the ball rolling during author chats. what's the most number of folks you've had on a chat at one time? or the most interesting thing you've ever had happen during an online chat?

This is so much fun. I'm so glad I came by today!

Kimberly, everything down here in the South is Coke even if it's a Pepsi. Sad but true. LOL!

Sabby honey, I'll think take a tiara instead of the cape. I mean since Karenne is the Queen I certainly can't have a big crown like hers. LOL!

Sharon, is Oliver still around to refresh my coffee and shot of Irish Whiskey? I could use another please.

Sabrina said...

Ashley,
I was JUST in San Diego! we spent almost 2 weeks there. Talk about relaxing! LOVE it there. It takes me an hour and a half -two hours to get to Tucson so let me know and I'm there!

Sabrina said...

Dani, Ok Tiara it is but you get a sash too. LOL

Sharon Donovan said...

Hey Ashley! Oh all right, you can borrow Oliver for a bit about the details of your beach party. I am so looking forward to a trip to San Diego next week. Oliver wants to go on a shopping spree.

Brenda, you've lived in so many
different places. Do you have a
favorite? What was Germany like? And
five cats? I was always a dog lover until
I got a cat. They really have their own
personalities, don't they? I bet all yours
are different. What kind are they? Oh
here comes Oliver with your mocha
frappichino. Oops, he dropped off some
buttered popcorn for Kimberly, stares
while she munches. Sharon shakes her
head. Oliver, you naughty boy!

Oh Sharon, I wish you had been with me when
I was in the Army. I lived in Fort Rucker, Alabama;
Ayer, Massachusetts; Colorado Springs, Colorado;
Fort McClellan, Alabama; Pirmasens, Germany; and
Barstow, California. My favorite was Colorado Springs.
There was an The 4th Infantry Division was there at
time and I discovered that the Cavalry love to party!
I could see mountains and trees and Happy Hour on
Thursdays. Germany was like that. Mountains and
trees and so many things to discover. The FOOD! I
was close to France so I went there a few times.
What wonderful things to eat.
Now my cats are no comparison to the Alps, but
they think they can climb them! Cleo is the oldest
and she is stately and demanding and thinks her bed
is in my clothes wardrobe! Black and white hairs will
get on anything! She was given to me by a friend
because she refused to use a litter box when young.
Princess is a tabby. Is that what you call the multi-
colored cats? Well, the name is appropriate! She
was found in the parking lot at the prison where I
was working. Satin was also from the prison. He
showed up in the boiler room and the inmates told
me he was a she. I didn’t find out otherwise until
the vet gave him back to me. Embarrassing! The
other two are barn cats that decided that they
were going to live with me. rolls eyes Obviously
I’m not in charge! Oh, by the way, my cats aren’t
a kind. They are heinz 57 of assorted colors although
Satin is black. I’ll take some ice cream please. My
mouth is dry. Now be nice to Oliver. He gives great
toes!

Danielle said...

Ohhh yippee! Contest time. OK Sharon, I went ahead and picked my choice for best question.

Shopping spree... music to my ears!

Brenda, all those cats. I know what you mean about them ruling your life. They do as they please. Freddy Krueger appeared at my door on Halloween, a black kitten. Such a sweet thing turned demon. LOL But all in fun with those namesake claws. He loved to play and loved sports. When the hockey game was on, he batted the puck with his paw and when they scored he ran in circles. What a hoot. And how about those darlings at Christmas time? Fred knocked my tree down more times than I cared to count. LOL But I had him for nineteen years and oh he left pawprints on my heart.
Danielle, good, you picked your choice. Drinks anyone? Oh Oliver, bring Brenda some ice cream. Would you like some, Danielle? Where is Sabrina and Ashley? Did they leave? Well ladies, this is the third streak of lightening and thunder is really roaring. I'm afraid I must sign off. I lost my hard drive once when struck. And you know what they say, once bitten, twice shy. But, feel free to stay as long as you like and I'll leave Oliver! Ladies, it has been so much fun entertaining you today. I hope we all keep in touch and please come back again. Big hugs,
Sharon

First off, I am probably going to be humming that song all night, way down yonder in the Chattahoochee, it will probably wake me around 2 in the morning, and I will think, hmmm, wasn't that Ashley who mentioned that? LOL

I love reviewing mysteries, vampires, true to life stories, really anything with a great premise, in-depth characters and the author tells a good story...if I have never read from that author before I like to check the authors website and see what other books he or she have out or are working on. I really like to connect with the author as well as the book that I am reading, it makes me know the person better behind the making of the book.

Hey Brenda, I was born in Ft. Rucker, Alabama, and most of my relatives still live around the Enterprise area and not far from it, and down into Florida

We were in Germany for two years and I loved it there, we were stationed in Ft. Polk, Louisiana for almost four years, that was a different turn about for us, too

Sharon, I sent you my response on the question contest. Thanks so much for having us today, and for allowing Oliver to spend a little extra time with me, he does give a nice foot massage

Hi Sharon, looks like you are winding things up. I just got back from class. I got eaten by mosquitos and sweated a whole lot, but Pogo now does a good stand for examination. Getting a Bichon to stand still is no mean feat. I had a good time before I had to leave, I hope we do it again!

Hi Sharon,
It would seem I missed all the fun. I am sorry, I was excited about today. With my job it is never easy to tell when I can leave work. Long winded meetings. It looks like everyone had fun.

Sharon,
My favorite Genre to read is m/m at this time. I tend to move but one of my favorite authors, Carol Lynne writes m/m and from the first book I read of hers I was hooked. Who can resist hot man on man action? Phew Gets the blood pumping.

Sharon,
I never got a chance to answer your one question about research. Honestly, I skim over most stuff because I don't know that much about history and such. But, there are times when I read something and I scratch my head in confusion. Where did that come from? I wonder to myself. Or if a foreign language is used where I either A: Have absolutely no idea what they are saying and there is no translation. Or B: If it happens to be enough French or Spanish that I understand but it makes no sense or it is translated wrong. I have had both of those happen. It really bugs me. One other thing is I don't like to read a book that has these huge gigantic words that I have no idea what they mean. Then I have to pull out the trusty dictionary and look up each word. Sigh...makes me feel like I am back in high school lol. Thanks again for having us. I had such a great time!

Danielle said...

Hi Delane, sorry you missed most of the fun. However, if you read back I am sure you will crack up like the rest of us did. Whoever has Oliver can now turn him over to me. *Danielle cups her hands around her mouth and shouts..."Oliverrrrr, Come out come out wherever you are! You wanna play? I have a great game we can play. Just a two person game. You will love it! Oliverrrr...."

(responding to Sharon) How does the Brass Spectacle Magazine fit in with Coffee Time Romance & More?

Just thought there was a need for a magazine that gave a new way to combine books, readers, and learning about the authors in a more personal level.
